Governing board self-evaluation questions

Use our questions to support annual self-evaluation of the board鈥檚 effectiveness and inform subsequent actions.

Guidance
29/03/2022

It is good practice for governing boards to regularly evaluate their own effectiveness. 海角社区 recommends that boards undertake self-evaluation activity on an annual basis.

Our self-evaluation questions have been compiled to support an annual self-evaluation of the board鈥檚 effectiveness and inform subsequent actions, whether that relates to future training, development or recruitment needs.

Two distinct question sets are available; for multi academy trusts (MATs) and for single schools.

A RAG (red, amber, green) rating system is provided to help individual board members respond to the questions.

The questions cover:

  • board culture and practice
  • board structure
  • core functions
  • compliance
  • evaluation and impact

You may wish to use all of the questions or to focus on a particular section.
