My first year of governance

Governing Matters
01/03/2023

As a pupil at my school, around 10 years ago, I never knew what school governors were or what they did. Consequently, I never considered the prospect of volunteering as a governor during my university days.

Having joined 海角社区 in 2019 as a graduate, I quickly learnt about the huge role and impact that governing boards have in the sector. As the pandemic gripped the nation, I felt compelled to do my part to support my local school, knowing there was a difficult road ahead after lockdown.

It鈥檚 fair to say that governance is incredibly rewarding, but it can take time to develop confidence in the role. I now feel I am a part of something, able to make a difference and advocate in a way that no other volunteer role would enable me to.
